My internship allowed me to participate first hand in the publication process. - Julie Kirsch '03

Internships

English majors should start their pursuit of internships in a conversation with the department chair. Most available internships are in the areas of writing and copyediting. However, we work to develop internship connections appropriate to each individual.

McGraw Hill Publishers is a seven-minute drive from Otterbein and English majors have held internships there in advertising, copyediting, and textbook development. Some majors have found full-time positions at McGraw Hill upon graduation.

Other area internships have been with advertising firms, realtors, small magazines, non-profit organizations, children's book publishers, libraries, and state and local government agencies.

In addition, the opportunities our students have to write for, edit and design in-house publications, such as Quiz and Quill - our creative writing magazine; Aegis - our humanities journal; and the Tan and Cardinal - the college newspaper, develop significant skills and experience for future careers.

Within the curriculum, we offer an independent study in research, through which a major can work with one of the faculty, assisting in their current research or book project.
