A classic is a book that has never finished saying what it has to say. By Italo Calvino.

Graduate Study

English majors are encouraged to consider graduate school if their interests lead them toward professional careers in such areas as college teaching and research, the ministry, or law. Recent graduates have gone to graduate school, both in creative writing and in literary studies, and several are professors at area colleges and universities. Other graduates have pursued advanced work in seminary, law school, police work, anthropology, film, and history of science.

The department sponsors a workshop during spring quarter for juniors interested in planning for graduate school. Students planning to pursue graduate study in English should complete more than the basic majors requirements, and should take all of the survey courses which are English 250, 255, 210, 215, and 220, (both American and British literature). These courses provide the background needed for the Graduate Record Exams.

The Courtright Memorial Library at Otterbein has excellent links from their web site to graduate school guides. To locate these go to the library home page, click on subject guides, then on Education, then on Graduate School, or use the link here. Be sure to visit the library in person as the librarians are skilled in helping you focus your searches and locating the graduate programs most appropriate to your interests.
