
The Fifth Annual Dean Van Sant Leadership Lecture Series will present a keynote address by Dan Bureau of the National Survey of Student Engagement at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 12, in room 114 of Roush Hall, 27 S. Grove St., Westerville. The event is free and open to the public.
The address, focused on community building, will cover issues of individual, organizational and community values and how these belief systems, when demonstrated properly, can shape a positive learning community. Additionally, issues of diversity, citizenship and collaboration will be addressed in this presentation.
Bureau works as a client services assistant at the National Survey of Student Engagement and is a doctoral student in Higher Education and Student Affairs at Indiana University. He is a consultant on a range of student life issues including student values, community building and organizational excellence. He has presented over 100 workshops and speeches during his 12 years working with students and student life professionals. He aspires to challenge students to be better leaders, regardless of position, and to deal with the issues they encounter every day in diverse campus communities.
Dr. Joanne "Dean Van" Van Sant has been involved with the Otterbein College community for over 60 years. In 1948, Dean Van came to Otterbein as an instructor in the Women's Health and Physical Education Department and the coach of all women's sports. She was named Dean of Women in 1952; named Dean of Students in 1964; named Vice President of Student Affairs in 1968; and from 1992 to the present, she has served as a Special Consultant for the Office of Institutional Advancement. Her impact on the growth of both women and man at Otterbein is unmatched.
