Creative Literacy Alliance

The Creative Literacy Alliance (CLA) is a partnership between Otterbein College and Genoa Middle School, funded through a generous grant from Chase Bank.

The CLA was founded with the idea of infusing creative literacy (a practice that brings creative writing exercises and workshops to the classroom) across the middle-school curriculum. Building on our belief that this practice improves literacy skills and helps young students to better see the world, Otterbein students take a course in teaching creative writing in the curriculum and then serve as poets-in-residence at Genoa, teaching lessons on poetry and writing.

At the ends of each year, as a service to the community, Otterbein hosts the CLA Celebration in which students read their poetry to an audience of Otterbein students and faculty, Genoa students, staff and teachers, and Westerville community members.
