About Otterbein College

History:
Founded in 1847, Otterbein is a private, independent, coeducational four-year liberal arts college affiliated with the United Methodist Church.

Location:
Westerville is a residential community of 36,000 residents on the northeast side of Columbus, Ohio.

Students:
Approximately 3,100 men and women from throughout Ohio, from coast to coast and several foreign countries.

Curriculum:
Otterbein offers a choice of 56 majors and 37 minors in the context of a rich history of a liberal arts education. Our distinctive core - Integrative Studies - brings the College community together to connect diverse aspects of life, culture, and experience through cross-study in the arts, sciences, and philosophy while emphasizing critical thinking, reasoning, and communication skills.

Student/Faculty Ratio:
The student to faculty ratio at Otterbein is 12:1.

Campus:
The 140-acre campus houses 50 buildings, a 270,000 volume library, learning resource center with access to OhioLINK, television studio, three art galleries and one museum, a fine arts center, two theatres, two sports and recreation centers, planetarium and observatory, campus radio station, equine facility, student center, and more.

Fraternities and Sororities: Seven fraternities and six sororities.

Application for Admission:
All applications are reviewed on an individual basis. Our priority application deadline is March 1. Students must submit a completed application, an official high school transcript, and ACT or SAT test results. Transfer students also are required to submit transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended.

Merit Scholarships:
Scholarships are awarded on a four-year basis to full-time students contingent upon satisfactory academic progress (see each scholarship category for specifics). Students will be notified of scholarship eligibility at the time of acceptance. All athletes must meet NCAA requirements. Priority is given to students who apply to the College by March 1.

Financial Aid:
Otterbein awards over $17 million a year in grants and scholarships. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) should be filed as soon after January 1 as possible. Financial Aid awards may consist of scholarships, grants, loans, and Work-Study programs. 95 percent of Otterbein students receive financial assistance.
